FIATA World Congress. A new president of the federation was elected

Last week, on October 4-6, the FIATA World Congress was held in Brussels, with approximately 650 participants from 80 countries.
During the congress, 3 new members of the federation were accepted and approved, and the total number of associate members increased to 114. It was emphasized that this is a positive sign, showing that the federation has strengthened international cooperation over the past year thanks to the active work and visits of the FIATA president and general director to various countries. .
The general election meeting held on October 6, 2023 was attended by more than 200 participants, the vast majority of whom participated directly.
According to the Statutes of the Federation, the following important issues were discussed at the Meeting - the President's report for the period of his presidency; admission of new members; granting honorary membership; dismissal of the members of the presidium of the previous term and election of new members, adoption of the updated code of participation of members in the activities of FIATA.
One of the most important 2023 the highlights of the general election meeting were the approval of candidates for all FIATA positions - 12 newly elected presidium members, vice presidents, and 13 chairmen of various FIATA institutes and bodies were approved. Many new faces appeared in the governing bodies of the Federation. In the coming weeks, special functions will be carried out by the newly confirmed members of the FIATA Presidium.
The participants of the meeting approved the newly elected president of FIATA Turguts Erkeskinas, the president of the Turkish association UTIKAD, and the vice presidents - Thomas Sim, (Singapore) Jens Roemeris, (Belgium) Marc Bibeau (Canada).
Robert Keen, BIFFA, United Kingdom, was unanimously approved as General Secretary, and Neil Taylor, ALOG, Chile, as Auditor of the federation.
The outgoing president dr. Ivan Petrov, NSBS, Bulgaria, pledged his full support to the future president Mr. Erkeskin, encouraged and thanked the presidium members for their recommendations and thoughts on the new leadership.
Mr. J. Erkeskin spoke about the needs of the century and the dynamic changes in forwarding operations and the challenges faced by the members of the Federation as a united freight transportation community. "FIATA is stronger than ever, driven by the values of unconditional commitment that define our purpose: excellence, collaboration, innovation, dedication and responsibility." Today we are announcing a new strategic vision that will empower the entire logistics sector. We believe in the power of transformation, and this power will come from within ourselves.
The newly confirmed President of the Federation said in his speech: “Our global presence is huge and has huge potential to shape the logistics industry. Together, we can leverage our resources and expertise to create a more interconnected supply chain. In a future where logistics and its streamlined processes and transparency will play a huge role in global trade and economic development, it will become a driving force for sustainability."
Former president dr. Ivan Petrov ceremoniously handed over a symbolic gold chain and a gold badge, now enhanced with silver, to the new president Mr. Erkeskin. Mr. Erkeskin also presented a small gift to the former president. He emphasized that "the value is greater than our existence, that this is a special artifact from Anatolia with the help of which, as it was believed, wishes become reality."
